Mother and daughter team Shirley and Jo-Anne opened Papercuts 3 ½ years ago. Having been made redundant from national craft chain ‘ The Papermill Shop’ Shirley and Jo-Anne knew there was still a huge demand for craft supplies and workshops. After finding an ideal retail space in the centre of Whitley Bay, Papercuts – a slice of imagination was born...
‘It all happened so quickly, One minute I was employed as store manager for Papermill Gateshead and Royal Quays and the next I was opening a craft centre with my mum –turning our hobbies and passion into a career for ourselves’ said Jo-Anne.
“Our aim is to satisfy the art and craft demands of everyone from their naughties to their nineties, through new and exciting stock lines and regular classes, workshops and demonstrations... if there’s something our customers want and we've not got it, then we’ll endeavor to get it!’ “
The birth of Jo-Annes son Charlie completed the family affair a few months after they opened and he has become a topic of conversation with our customers old and new, some saying he will become the next Tim Holtz... at 3 years of age he already knows his Papermill colours.
We work long and hard hours trying to keep up with the craft market, new trends and the competition of t.v. and online stores... but it is worth all the effort
We believe you have to physically touch and see colours to truly appreciate the quality of our stock.” Said Shirley
“When we heard Papermilldirect were looking for high street partners it was a sure thing for us, having knowledge and experience of their high quality cardstock and other supplies.
We are thrilled to now supply our customers, some having followed us from The Papermilldirect Stores, with their preferred ‘Papermilldirect’ ‘Fill a box’ cardstock.
It feels like we have returned home, only this time having the control and extra enthusiasm and benefits of running our own store – alongside the best Cardstock manufacturers in Britain.
