Handmade Friendship Card from Sharon Nettleship - “The stamp is called Floral Silhouette A5 stamp plate. I stamped the flourish from the set onto the cream linen card and clear embossed it. I stamped and cut out the two butterflies , one on the cream linen and one on the grey plain cardstock. These were layered up to create a 3D effect and glittered with Cosmic shimmer glitter pot in gun metal”

Handmade Fathers Day Card Tutorial by Kerry Cox

Fathers Day for 2013 is the 16th of June – Don’t forget!

Make your Fathers day card really special this year and make it yourself!  Why not use the great dads shirt card tutorial from our Design team member Kerry!

We think that sending a personal card that has been handmade by you or your kids means so much more than popping to the local supermarket and picking up a card that hundreds of other dads will receive. Especially true if your kids make it for your partner / husband.  Buy a few craft supplies, card glue and maybe a few buttons, lay them on the kitchen table and let the kids get creative. No Dad will care if the card is a littly sticky or wonky – he’ll love it more!

All you really need to make your own DIY Fathers day card, is some card and some inspiration and we have both for you!  You can buy small boxes of card from us in and we let you Pic n Mix the colours – it’s good value for money and you’ll have plenty left for teachers cards, birthday cards and Christmas cards too!

Alternatively (if card making is not your thing) head over to one of the handmade market places like Etsy or Folksy and search for ‘Handmade Fathers day cards’ you will find lots of card designers who will happily create a bespoke card design just for your dad – but don’t leave it too long as many are very busy with commissions at this time of year!

Using Tonic Studios dies with Papermill Teal card.

Hi everyone! It’s Sandie here today with a papercrafting tutorial for some quick and easy treat boxes.

These  handmade treat boxes are perfect for any occasion from birthday treats to wedding favours to halloween candies…. or even just an impromptu treat for the kids, they love them!

To make the treat boxes you will need:

Sizzix (or other) Pillowbox Die
Selection of Cardstock
Patterned Papers
Classic Circle & Scalloped Circle Nestabilities
White card for stamping
Colouring medium
DS Tape or Wet Glue
Stamps. I’ve used Fairy Trinkets from Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps
3D Foam tape/dots

The How to:

Cut out the pillow boxes in a few different colours using the die and make them up. Use a strong tape along the side strip to adhere the sides together and then fold in both the top and bottom flaps.
Trim the patterned papers to fit lengthwise, wrap it around the box and secure with glue.
Add a length of lace across each pillowbox
Stamp out the images/sentiemnts and cut out using classic circle Nestabilities.
Colour the image using your desired medium
Cut out some scalloped circles in contrasting cardstock and adhere the images
Adhere the scalloped circles to the front of the pillow box using 3D foam, for extra depth.

Fill the boxes with candy, or treats, and enjoy!!

Hiya , Shary here and instead of a tutorial I thought I’d do something different and give you a review on one of my favourite crafting tools  The Silhouette Cameo

There are 2 machines available -

The Silhouette Cameo which retails at around £270.00.

The Silhouette Portrait is a smaller version of the Cameo retailing at around £190.00.

Here’s the technical bit

Cameo cutting capabilities are 12″ wide by 10 foot long and uses a 12″ cutting mat.

Portrait cutting capabilities are 8″ wide by 10 foot long and uses a 8″ cutting mat.

All you need to start is your Silhouette Cameo machine, PC or laptop, mat, blade and the free downloadable software. The free software also comes with 50 free shapes for you to get started with. You can cut paper, card, vinyl, vellum, fabric, chipboard, doeflex and lots more.

I chose to buy a Cameo because I did have the Grand Calibur but money was tight and I just couldn’t afford the dies. I bought a few but they didn’t cover all what I wanted to do on my projects.   With the Cameo each file costs 65p , there is a weekly clearance with some of the files being 33p. Also every week there is a freebie file. All these files can be adjusted to any size you want them to be and they can be manipulated. The Cameo  also has a print and cut feature too. You can also  import your own files from your CDs, jpegs, photos, clipart etc. If you want to go a bit more advanced there is  an additional add on to your software called the Designer Edition which allows you to use svg files. There are several online stores that sell these files. Designing your own files is also an option.

One of the reasons I applied to became a DT member for Papermill was because of the way the Papermill card cut on my Cameo, I was very impressed. Previously I’d tried lots of different card from other manufacturers and had been disappointed. I couldn’t seem to get a nice clean cut. Several years ago I’d visited one of the Papermill shops and bought myself 2 A4 pick and mix boxes , which I’d used most of , but still had some left. I decided to try it and the rest is history!! I ordered 2 A3 boxes of  white, black and cream card. I chose A3 because I make a lot of 3D projects on my Cameo and it is the best and most economical way to cut my projects. Most of my projects are now made with Papermill card as you can see in these pictures.

Using the Cameo and Papermill Direct card I can get even the most intricate cuts to look good. This is a lovely lacey doiley shape with lots of little cut outs.

When I received my first DT card box I was a little apprehensive on the how the card would cut as it was mostly the coloured card. I needn’t have worried it still cut like a dream!!

I am one of the admin on a UK Silhouette Cameo Facebook Group and always advise using Papermill card for a good cut.

Hi all, Pickle Here

I thought I would show you a little tutorial, this is not my idea so I cannot take the credit .There are many versions out there on the internet. I do however hope you enjoy my tutorial and find it useful especially with fathers day coming up which these cards would be perfect for.

I will not use specific measurements for my tutorial as this card can be adapted to suit many different sizes

 What you need:

A card blank.  I use papermill direct linen cardstock and score my own.

A sheet of patterned card/paper which is the same width but around a 3rd longer again than you card blank (see picture below)

A strip of the same patterned paper to make a cuff

And your embellishments. For my examples I have used a printed tie and badge

from THIS set at Digistamp Boutique 

I have also used some printed buttons from the same digi kit as I printed my paper from but you could easily cut a tie shape and maybe use really buttons or brads instead as I have in my other example. Or a nice piece of fabric or thick ribbon for the tie would be lovely.

 You will also need a pair of scissors or craft knife

a ruler and score tool or scoreboard

corner rounder or coin

and adhesive of your choice

Firstly you need to score your piece of patterned card once along the same length as your base card and once half of that measurement (see below)

 Now cut along the first scoreline  (see below) for my finished card which is 15cm square I cut around an inch inbut of course this will depend on your finished project.

I would suggest trying this part on a piece of copy paper to see how wide you like your collar.

 Now fold the remaining scoreline back on itself

 And fold this down to form the collar so the two points meet in the middle

 To make the sleeve and cuff

Cut your long strip of card into 2 rectangles one slightly longer than the other and round the corners of the longest piece either with a corner rounder or you could use a coin to draw round and cut with scissors

This is what you should have now

 Adhere all the piece into place using your chosen adhesive and adhere to the card blank

There are so many possibilities for this type of card.

Christmas ties, tiny gift card size ones, printing digi images on to the ties and colouring, make a pocket using the same technique as for the cuff etc etc

 I have used Papermill Direct Linen cardstock to print all of my elements onto
